3 reasons why you should participate in a community garden

Sustainability is a huge part of what makes Harmony unique. Our residents care about the environment and how they leave the planet for future generations. One way Harmony creates a sustainable living space is with our community garden. Using a community garden is not only good for the environment, but it's good for you, too! Here are a few reasons why being part of a community garden is a good idea for you and your community. Better for your overall health It’s not a secret that eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is good for your health. When you take part in a community garden, you are more likely to eat what you plant. Not only are these plants healthier for you, but there are benefits of choosing an organically grown produce. You know exactly where and how these crops were produced, limiting your intake of harsh chemicals that are often used by big name produce and grocery providers. You can also try new produce that you might have otherwise never tried. Either way, it's a win-win for you and your body. Fosters relationships Tending to a garden takes time – you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get to know your neighbors and other members of your community garden. These gardens also help reduce stress levels of those who are involved. Gardening benefits our overall well-being; it's a productive hobby that can improve our overall mood, and when you’re learning a new skill like gardening, your self-esteem will get a boost, too. It will help your relationship with yourself, and it provides a nice way to meet new people with similar interests. Helps local...

Why everyone should visit Harmony’s conservation area

We’ve said it before – Harmony’s conservation area is something to behold. Harmony’s community encompasses 11,000 acres, 70% of which will always remain lakes, conservation areas and green space. This promise to preserve a large portion of our land is a nod to Harmony’s essential purpose, which was to create a co-existing relationship between humans and nature. And we think we did just that! Since the first residents moved into the community in 2003, we have continued to expand, all the while keeping our beloved green space intact. Our purpose is about appreciating nature in abundance. Providing our residents a place to be face-to-face with untouched land. Our promise to conserve 70% of our land isn't the only conservation we uphold, though. Harmony also is Central Florida’s largest Green Certified development thanks to the eco-friendly construction standards.       Even if you aren’t a resident of Harmony, you can appreciate the breathtaking beauty of our two protected lakes and 12.5 miles of hiking trails. The dock leading up to Buck Lake is a perfect spot to sit and appreciate the beauty and tranquility of this 511-acre natural wonder. Both Buck and Cat Lake are pristine and protected, with shorelines rimmed with trees. At Buck Lake, residents can use community-owned boats, kayaks and canoes to explore the lake and see some of its animal residents. There are also 12.5 miles of walking trails throughout Harmony, and many of the trails go through beautiful nature preserves. The nature preserves give you the unique opportunity to see the wild and untouched natural Florida. If you're not convinced that our conservation area is unique, come...

Why Harmony stands out from other master-planned communities

What makes Harmony stand out from other master-planned communities? Besides our love of nature and friendly faces, our master-planned community was built with thoughtful intentions for our mother earth. Every aspect of our community was developed with purpose, from our walkability, amenities, nature trails to our schools. Harmony is anything other than a “cookie cutter” community. See how Harmony stands out from other communities, below. True green living Harmony's eco-friendly standards came from the idea that people and nature can coexist. Residents have many opportunities to learn about and explore their environment. For example, with lakes and trails (more than 12.5 miles of walking trails!) nearby, wildlife is never too far away. Harmony realized that the connection between humans and nature is an important one, which is why we take part in preserving some of Florida’s rich natural heritage and conserving natural resources for future generations. Unlike other neighborhoods, we encourage residents to get involved in the conservation of our community. The phrase “leave it better than you found it” rings true in Harmony.  CDD Fees Harmony’s CDD (Community Development District) fees, which are built into your mortgage, are competitive compared to most master-planned communities. These fees are generally levied by the community developer to provide the community with amenities, like pools, golf courses, gyms and etc. These fees are collected annually and are incorporated into your property taxes. Outside of CDD fees, communities like Harmony offer optional memberships, like unlimited golfing, gym and personal training packages. Even though these are extra monthly fees, they can be beneficial to you if you are planning on taking full advantage of the amenities in...
