The Lakes at Harmony is full of amenities you’ll love

A lot of perks come with living in Harmony’s newest addition, The Lakes, our 55+ community, but we’d have to say one of our favorites is the leisure amenities. Residents of The Lakes have access to other Harmony amenities like Harmony’s Golf Preserve, Town Square, two pristine lakes, and 12.5 miles of walking trails. On top of that, though, are the specific amenities just for The Lakes residents. You'll be in heaven with the resort-style pool with a spacious pool deck and “sunset” gazebo. Thanks to Florida's climate, this amenity can be enjoyed year-round. The pool isn’t just for relaxation, though! There are numerous benefits of exercising in the water. It’s low impact, so it's good on the joints. Plus it's a great workout! If exercising in the water isn’t your style, don’t worry – we also have a state-of-the-art gym exclusively for Harmony residents that wish to join. Reward yourself after a workout with happy hour! At The Lakes, happy hour happens every night. Yes, you read that right. The best part is, this event is exclusive just for The Lakes residents. Imagine enjoying happy hour at our sunset gazebo with a beautiful water view. Sounds pretty ideal, right? The new Recreation Center inside The Lakes boasts an event room, crafts, a fitness center, two tennis courts, and an outdoor covering complete with a fireplace for socializing and relaxing, all specifically for The Lakes residents. Organizating and scheduling of events will be done by the Activities Director. The Director is exclusive to The Lakes residents, providing them with a variety of events and activities to ensure there’s always something fun...

Harmony’s lakes provide mental and physical benefits

What makes Harmony such a great place to live? There are many reasons, but a few of our favorites have to be Buck Lake and Cat Lake. Everyone who walks out on the docks at Buck Lake falls in love with the beauty and tranquility of this 511-acre natural wonder. Buck Lake and Cat Lake are pristine and protected, with shorelines rimmed with trees. At Buck Lake, you can use community-owned boats, kayaks, and canoes to explore. Only low-speed boats are allowed on Buck Lake, preserving the environment and maintaining the quiet calm. Cat Lake is only accessible by our residents and their guests. Campgrounds near the lake are perfect for a fun getaway (that’s not so far away) for the whole family! These amenities are both fun and benefit your health! Studies have shown that living near a body of water helps your mental and physical well-being. The calming effect lakes provide our bodies with are obvious. More interestingly, some theories link water’s soothing effects to evolution and our dependence on water. Another way of looking at it is that because our bodies are made up of about 60% water, we have a natural affinity for it and are drawn to lakes, rivers, and oceans since water is so integral to our lives. Don’t forget the physical benefits that lakes can provide. Buck Lake is a great place to get exercise! The kayaks and canoe rentals are free for residents. Relax and paddle along the beautiful calming waters at Buck Lake and feel your stress melt away. Thanks to Florida’s beautiful climate, you can take advantage of these amazing amenities...

Cat Lake: Discover nature, Find peace, Celebrate life

In the northeast corner of Harmony, at the end of Five Oaks Drive, you’ll find a rustic wooden gate and a footpath leading to Cat Lake. Follow it and within five minutes you’ll discover one of Harmony’s most pristine natural wonders. A majestic copse of live oaks springs up from the shoreline like a welcome sign as you walk up. The 460-acre freshwater lake and surrounding wetlands are completely natural. No playgrounds, no boardwalks, no restrooms – Mother Nature in all of her glory. Come solo or bring your tribe. Either way, let Cat Lake inspire you to get outdoors and soak in the good vibes. A Wealth of WildlifeBecause Cat Lake is undeveloped, its waters and the surrounding wetlands are brimming with animals. They live among the thick tree canopies and dense patches of knobby cypress knees that ring the lake. Bring a pair of binoculars and increase your chances of spotting wild turkeys, red-shouldered hawks, white-tailed deer, armadillos, otters, and even alligators – all natives to our state. Don’t be surprised if you come across a cottonmouth or pygmy rattlesnake – two of the six venomous snake species found in Florida (and in Harmony!). Don’t worry, just be aware and stay cautious. Steer clear of all the wildlife, and don’t feed them either! Never feed wildlife. It not only violates certain laws, it’s dangerous to animals, people, and property. Cat Lake and nearby Buck Lake (which has wooden boardwalks, fishing piers, and passive boating) are part of Jug Creek Swamp. The two lakes also connect with the town’s residential ponds, thus making Harmony part of a larger...
