Hopefully these five tips will ease some of your stress and help you feel more prepared! Are You Covered? Having the right insurance will help minimize your losses in the case of an emergency. Homeowners insurance will usually cover losses from wind, storm, and broken water pipes, and wind and hail insurance will usually cover damage due to storm winds in coastal areas. If you've taken steps to minimize storm damage on your home, many insurers will offer discounts on hurricane insurance. With mitigation improvements, you could save thousands of dollars annually. Ask a licensed, experienced insurance agent about the best coverage for your home.  Have a Hurricane Kit Ready Another important tip regarding hurricane prep for homes in Florida is to have a hurricane kit ready for when bad weather strikes, so you don't have to scramble to find everything you need at the last minute.
