A vital aspect of the Harmony community philosophy is that education happens best close to home. Top notch educational opportunities are now all within walking distance for Harmony's residents. In addition, nearby parks and nature preserve areas offer students ample opportunities to learn about the natural world around them and throughout the school year, both schools coordinate with the local community to provide joint cultural and educational opportunities for the children of Harmony.
The town of Harmony was all abuzz on August 19, 2008 when the doors of Harmony Community School opened. Accommodating 950 students from kindergarten through eighth grade (this is an interim plan until a middle school opens that will house grades 6 – 8), the new school also offers VPK 3 and 4.
An outstanding principal and staff, dedicated and passionate teachers, and state of the art technology in each class room, Harmony Community School is the school all other schools are watching. The new school campus has a large state of the art media center, an indoor cafeteria, basketball courts, an outdoor covered area, two playgrounds and so much more.
In addition, this is the first school in the area to utilize the new SmartBoard educational system. Harmony High School (HHS) sits just south across Highway 192 from Harmony, easily accessible by foot via an underpass walkway. HHS's mission is to make a positive difference in the academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being of students, staff, and the community. HHS students are those who exhibit a high degree of quality in all they say and do. Individually, they demonstrate what can be called a high degree of 'class'; and collectively, they are a 'class act'.
The Harmony Longhorns have received national recognition for their ballroom dance squad and wrestling teams as well as state-wide acknowledgment for their football team.
HHS earned a B for the 2007-2008 School Grade (only 2 points shy of receiving an A)! HHS is the first and only comprehensive high school in Osceola County to earn a B. Public school grading are assigned each year by the Florida Department of Education. This grade is based on an A to F scale and are designed to help the state recognize the schools' weaknesses and to chart their performance.
